Upcoming chances to meet

  • I will be participating on a panel at Enterprise 2.0 on June 24 (2:15pm) titled "Unlocking the Potential for Enterprise Mash Ups #e2conf25"
  • I will be doing a book-signing of Mashup Patterns at the Web 2.0 Expo (booth 645) in San Francisco on April 1st and 2nd.
  • I will be moderating a panel on Enterprise Mashups at the CeBIT on March 4th

If you read my bio in the book then you already know I am building a full-size replica of the B9 robot from the TV series Lost in Space. Why? Because it's a lost easier than building a full-size Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet. Still you ask, "Why?" I also collect/restore vintage vector arcade games (Asteroids, Battlezone, Star Wars, etc) and pinball machines (Dr. Who, Twilight Zone, Whitewater) and having a robot greet visitors to "Mike's Arcade" seemed a nice touch.

Plus, I don't have to work hard to convince people I have "nerd cred" anymore. If you want to learn more, I recommend a trip over to the B9 Robot Builder's Club.

Mooshup.com latest to vanish

It's happened again. I guess we could have predicted it fairly easily. Once Google, Microsoft, OpenKapow (openkapow.com still exists as a landing page to learn more about Kapow Technologies commercial products), and

We are all IT

John Crupi. JackBe CTO, has a great blog post over at eBizQ entitled, "The Information Sound Bite of 2010: We Failed to Connect the Dots".

I disagree with John on one point though; this isn't the sound bite of 2010; I think I've been hearing about breakdowns in communication between government offices si… Continue

Mashups: Better luck in 2010?

I don't think we will look back on 2009 as "The Year of Mashups". I'll choose to blame that ever-popular scapegoat "The Economic Downturn". It's tough to move towards a technology that rebalances the relationship between IT and End-users when peoples' main concern is keeping their job. And "mashups" still remain misunderstood by many. At my regular "9 to 5" gig for example, management along with many of my coworkers still haven't grasped their potential even though I have done my best to evangel… Continue

Another one bites the dust: Zembly gone by the end of November

I hate the make this into a mashup obituary column, but alas I have to report that social media/mashup experiment Zembly is biting the dust according to this blog post on their site.

I first learned about Zembly during the time I was wrapping up Mashup Patterns, because the publisher (Pearson) also operates Sun Press, and they had just released a book on the subject. A book on a product still -and never to leave, apparent… Continue
